Rome and the End!

Our last stop on our 5 week European journey was Rome. After so much travel, Rome was our "cool down" from 4 weeks of "go, go, go". We know, "Rome... a cool down?" How is that even possible? Over 4 weeks we spent time absorbed in architecture, museums, food, friends, and family. So we took in the grandness of Rome, the splendor of Roman food, and graciousness of Roman culture.

We saw all the highlights: the Colosseum (Heather got in for free because she is blonde), the Vatican (we spent 2 days there because it was so awe inspiring), the Pantheon (the oldest continually used church in Rome), Trevi fountain (beautiful), the Spanish Steps (a bit overrated, but of course we had to see them!), the excitement of Carnival celebrations (lots of confetti and strange floats in the parade) and the wonders of strolling through ancient Roman ruins and the quaint cobble stoned streets lined with restaurants and gelato shops. Rome is all it's cracked up to be and more. Everywhere you turn, there is beauty and history. It's like seeing the pages of your history textbooks come alive before your eyes.

And so as our journey came to an end, we were able to appreciate everything we saw and experienced throughout our time, and even more, the graciousness that so many of our friends and family showed to us by opening up their homes and welcoming us with true European hospitality.

Where will we go next?
